The award system of the Russian Federation has varied and distinct origins. The first being pre-1917 orders of the Russian Empire re-established after 1991. The second is from former Soviet orders that were slightly modified and kept after the USSR's collapse. We also find many completely new awards resembling Imperial awards in basic design since the reintroduction of Russian heraldry, these are mainly bestowed by ministries and departments that did not previously have their own honour system.
NOTE: This page is growing in leaps and bounds to the point of containing so much info as to require excessive scrolling. In an effort to make each section more pertinent and complete, only State awards will remain on this page. New pages are being done for each particular Ministry and/or Department. If a particular section of interest can no longer be found here, a link at the bottom will take you to the new page. Sections done to date: Medals of the Ministry of Defence (Includes Rail Troops/Federal Agency for Special Construction), the Ministry For Emergency Situations (EMERCOM), The Ministry of Internal Affairs (including the Federal Immigration Service and the Federal Border Service, now the FSB Border Guards Service.
